What supplements do Hyrox athletes actually need?
Four things cover almost everyone: a carbohydrate source you can take mid-race (gel, chew or drink mix), an electrolyte mix with meaningful sodium, creatine monohydrate for the strength stations, and a fast protein for recovery. Beta-alanine, caffeine and magnesium are useful add-ons once those basics are in place. Most other categories are optional for this event.
What should I take on Hyrox race day, and when?
A common race-day pattern: a high-carbohydrate, low-fibre meal 2–3 hours before the start; caffeine 30–60 minutes before if you use it (3–6 mg per kg of body weight is the range used in research); an electrolyte drink in the final 15 minutes; then one isotonic gel or a serving of chews around the 25-minute mark and again around 50 minutes for a 60–90 minute race. Practise the exact products in training first — race day is not the time to try a new gel.
Is creatine worth it for Hyrox?
Yes for most athletes. Creatine monohydrate is one of the most-researched supplements for repeated high-intensity efforts — exactly what sled pushes, sled pulls, wall balls and sandbag lunges demand after a run. Take 3–5 g daily, every day, for at least 3–4 weeks before it matters on race day. It slightly increases body water, which is not a problem for Hyrox. The unflavoured monohydrate powders here are the simplest and best value.
Do I need electrolytes for a race that only lasts 60–90 minutes?
For most people, yes — Hyrox venues are indoor, warm and humid, and sweat rates are high for the whole race. Sodium is the electrolyte that matters most; look for 300–1,000 mg per serving rather than a product built around potassium or flavour. Drinking large amounts of plain water without sodium can leave you worse off than drinking less. Stick packs like Magnum REFRSH are easy to carry to the start line.
Should I use a pre-workout before Hyrox?
Use caffeine, not necessarily a full pre-workout. A high-stimulant formula built for a 60-minute lift can leave you jittery, over-breathing and cramping in a 90-minute race. Plain caffeine tablets let you dose precisely; a moderate pre-workout you have already trained on is fine; a stim-free option gives you citrulline and beta-alanine without the caffeine load.
What helps recovery between Hyrox training sessions?
The two levers with the most support are protein and sleep. A fast-digesting whey isolate or ready-to-drink shake within an hour or two of a hard session helps you reach a daily protein intake of roughly 1.6–2.2 g per kg of body weight, which is where hybrid athletes tend to land. Magnesium bisglycinate before bed and an omega-3 with meals are the two micronutrients most Hyrox athletes add on top.
Where are the Hyrox races in Canada, and can Fuel Supplements ship in time?
The 2026–27 Canadian season includes GoodLife HYROX Toronto (October 1–4, 2026), HYROX Vancouver (December 18–20, 2026) and HYROX Ottawa (April 2027). We ship Canada-wide from our BC warehouses, free on orders over $100, and offer same-day pickup in Port Coquitlam — Vancouver-area racers can collect race-week fuel in person.
